TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO PLAYS HOST TO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES IN 2013

Sustainable tourism, Caribbean travel and hospitality, and minority travel take the stage in Port of Spain

Port of Spain, Trinidad – February 1, 2013. Trinidad and Tobago is taking center stage this year as major international organizations have chosen the capital city of Port of Spain to host their annual conferences. Topics such as sustainable tourism, Caribbean travel and hospitality, and minority travel will be discussed as thousands are expected to visit the business capital of the Caribbean in 2013 for the following conferences:

Taking place from April 15-17, 2013, the 14th edition of the annual Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Sustainable Tourism Development Conference will be taking place at Hyatt Regency Trinidad. Bringing together the region's leading tourism officials and key stakeholders as well as international experts in an environment that facilitates the sharing of experiences and discussions on key issues, the CTO Sustainable Tourism Development Conference will seek to explore new means of improving and re-inventing the tourism product in Caribbean destinations with a goal of maintaining the region's position as the premiere warm-weather destination of the world. The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference, organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), is set to hold it's the annual conference at Hyatt Regency Trinidad from May 7-9, 2013. Founded in 1962, the CHTA actively promotes the continuing improvement and expansion of the Caribbean hospitality industry by encouraging the exchange of information through timely publications, conferences, special interest programs, training activities and regional marketing initiatives.  The CHTA is a federation of 35 national hotel associations representing more than 800 member hotels and has more than 650 allied members, such as restaurant owners and tour operators. Typically, the conference attracts between 400 and 450 high powered delegates from both the public and private sectors and receives extensive international and regional press coverage. A non-profit organization which has displayed strong and continuous growth over its decade-long existence, Travel Professionals of Color (TPOC) currently has an active membership of more than 300 travel professionals who influence the travel buying habits of hundreds of thousands of minority consumers. The 11th TPOC Annual Conference and Trade Show will be held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad from July 28–August 4, 2013 and will bring top travel executives, travel agent owners, managers, sales staff, industry suppliers, hospitality professionals and students for a week of education, training and networking opportunities to Trinidad. This year's conference will include the opportunity for participants to experience Emancipation celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago, the first country to recognize the Emancipation of enslaved Africans with a public holiday.
